It's also the perfect time for novices and experienced gardeners alike to make the most of our extra time at home to get planting and create a beautiful outdoor refuge for the coming summer months. We're pleased to offer these videos, writings and resources celebrating all things horticultural and guaranteed to inspire and encourage everyone.
HARVESTING SPRING BRANCHES
Let Kathleen Tessaro of Minerva Flowers take you on a peaceful spring day walk around Newington, in Sewickley, Pennsylvania, to learn about harvesting branches that you can use to make your own arrangements or to give the hope of spring to a loved one who may not be able to enjoy the outdoors themselves.
BEGINNING A VEGETABLE GARDEN
The spread of COVID-19 worldwide had caused us at Penn State Extension Master Gardeners to ponder both our food sources and pastimes. We invite you to take a fresh look at the World War I and World War II  “Victory Garden” tradition. Your garden can provide healthy food for your family in addition to benefiting your physical and mental well-being. POETRY
Catie Laffoon / Design by Clara Hendler
Elizabeth Barrett Browning, ‘Beloved, thou has brought me many flowers’. This poem, one of Barrett Browning’s Sonnets from the Portuguese (1850) written about her love for her husband, Robert Browning, describes how her beloved brought her flowers plucked in the garden, as tokens of his affection. Barrett Browning instructs her beloved to accept her gifts – her thoughts – which, like the flowers in the garden, have grown within her and, under his care, ‘shall not pine’.

Sonnets from the Portuguese 44
Beloved, thou has brought me many flowers
BY Elizabeth Barrett Browning

Beloved, thou hast brought me many flowers
Plucked in the garden, all the summer through
And winter, and it seemed as if they grew
In this close room, nor missed the sun and showers,
So, in the like name of that love of ours,
Take back these thoughts which here unfolded too,
And which on warm and cold days I withdrew
From my heart’s ground. Indeed, those beds and bowers
Be overgrown with bitter weeds and rue,
And wait thy weeding; yet here’s eglantine,
Here’s ivy!— take them, as I used to do
Thy flowers, and keep them where they shall not pine.
Instruct thine eyes to keep their colours true,
And tell thy soul, their roots are left in mine.
